Professional Background

Susan Yoder Torres concentrates her practice on estate planning and business law. Licensed in Virginia, Maryland and DC, she represents clients in all three jurisdictions. She joined SS&B in 2000, following two years as an attorney-advisor to a federal administrative law judge in the Department of Labor, and eight years as an associate, then a principal, of another DC law firm.

Ms. Torres handles matters that are inherently personal and technically complex. She encourages clients to focus on individual objectives, family circumstances and financial realities. Depending on clients’ needs and goals, Ms. Torres designs estate plans to transfer assets, simplify administration or save estate taxes, using wills, lifetime trusts, credit shelter trusts, marital trusts, life insurance trusts, lifetime gifts and other techniques as needed. Ms. Torres works with SS&B employee benefit attorneys to prepare life insurance, 401(k), IRA and other beneficiary designations that support the estate planning objectives of SS&B clients. She also coordinates efforts with outside accountants, attorneys, brokers, financial planners and other professionals familiar with clients’ circumstances.

Ms. Torres works with SS&B employee benefit attorneys and business clients to review or document transactions, memorialize management decisions, draft notices and announcements, and prepare employment and termination agreements.
